No team or organisation is successful without managers
understanding and applying 'people development skills'.
Investor in People has dedicated 2 of the 10 indicators in the 'revised standard'
specifically to: Top managers (directors / owners and partners) understanding their own
knowledge, skills and behaviours to be successful, and applying necessary
skills in the workplace. This process should apply to every tier in the
management structure if an organisation is to prosper. Investor in
People have even developed a specific model on Leadership and
Management, which organisations can be assessed against independently
of the IIP quality standard. BS EN IS0 9001-2000 cites trained and
competent as essential at all levels to consistently deliver quality products or
services.
In sales organisations the high flier may be promoted into sales
management. Yet managing a sales 'people' is completely different to managing a
'sales presentation'. This is one example, there are numerous to choose from.
Promoted employees usually do not posses the knowledge, skills and behaviours
needed to manage people effectively.
IBS trainers understand the pressure managers and supervisors are under. Particularly
where there are often unpredictable and fluctuating demands on staff, time and resources.
Businesses are increasingly under pressure to satisfy customer's requirements
whilst ensuring costs are kept under control. Management effectiveness can
determine efficiency and
profitability. Trained and competent is a primary requirement of
BS EN ISO 9001-2000, BS 7750 and the management
of Health and Safety.
Certain elements of IBS management, sales and supervisory training courses can contribute
to the achievement of NVQs as Accredited Prior Learning and / or MCI (Management Charter
Initiative).
